Different Types of Recycling

The recycling process begins by sorting recyclable materials into three common categories: cans, plastic, and paper. Each type of material has specific requirements for how it should be handled during the recycling process. If you have any questions about managing and reducing waste, please feel free to contact your local recycling facility.

Types of Recycling

Can Recycling: Most cans are made of aluminum, steel, or a combination of both. All cans must be recycled using a specialized can recycling process. The metal from the can is separated from the plastic and other materials. The metal is then melted and made into new cans.

Plastic Recycling: Plastic is made from petroleum products. It can be divided into two categories: clear and colored. Clear plastic contains no color pigments, while colored plastic contains small amounts of color that can affect the quality of the end product. Both types of plastic can be recycled using a specialized recycling process.

Paper Recycling: Paper is made from wood or other plant-based materials. It can be shredded into small pieces or left as larger pieces. Paper recycling is a multi-step process that includes screening, baling, bailing, and washing.

There are many different types of recycling centers, and each center operates differently. It is important to research the specific requirements for your region before deciding where to recycle.
